Do you know what “brownfield” means?

Today I submitted a proposal for building a community/association of professionals engaged in redeveloping brownfield sites. Coming from a shared services experience, you would think that brownfield is used in the context of locating a shared services center in one of the corporate offices, right?

Well, as I learned during a fascinating brief with my potential client, redeveloping a brownfield site means increasing the value of a real estate previously occupied by an industrial plant, or otherwise polluted and whose appeal to potential buyers is very low. There is a lot of activity around this topic, particularly in over-populated Europe, where land is a precious resource.

Will keep you posted on the discussion about this, should be fun to get involved in yet another niche community.
